My husband and I had dinner here with friends. The ambiance was nice and the service good. My husband thought his spinach enchiladas were good. I ordered beef fajitas. The beef was a little tough. The dish came with shredded cheese and lots of guacamole and sour cream. The dish was not advertised as including any lettuce. The pico de gallo was too spicy for me, and the beans were a little too dry. I should have known that beef steak is almost always tough at Mexican restaurants, and ordered something different. Our friends liked their pork carnitas and taco. I liked that everyone got individual salsa dishes. Overall I rate the restaurant a 4 but my beef was a 3.

Great food and service. Vegetarian tamales were delicious! Margaritas tasted like a mix (not impressed).

You know a restaurant must be good when you walk in and the wait is incredibly long! But I'm here to say the wait is well worth it! You just learn to go early that's all, because the food, the atmosphere, the staff i Make it worth it. The first time we went we didn't realize they closed earlier than we expected. We still got the same amazing service wonderful food never felt rushed. It was a great first time experience cheese, enchiladas for my husband, shredded beef and bean wet burrito for me. The chips were hot. The salsa was great. It definitely made us want to come back. I'm sure you're going to feel the same way. ENJOY

We have been here on a number of occasions. It's always busy but I think it's worth the wait. The food is reasonable prices and they have a happy hour. The drinks are a great deal. I think margaritas are $4 during happy hour. They also offer hot and mild salsa also a plus for us. I like mild my husband loves hot. It can be a little noisy but that's because the place is always packed. The service has always been spot on.

Holy Frijoles! This was good! Came here at 11:00 opening time. The atmosphere is bright and airy - extremely well decorated. Everything is clean and new. Service was impeccable. Seated quickly and had drinks and chips and salsa within minutes. Our server was prompt and attentive, but not TOO attentive (if ya know what i mean). Food fresh and tasty. Presentation top-notch. Fried ice cream with caramel for dessert was perfect! If you're a fan of authentic Mexican food, add this to your favs list. I WILL be back!

We ended up here after our planned stop fell through. Fairly busy on a Sunday night, we put our name on the list and went to the outdoor patio bar to wait 25-30 mins. Not a lot of drink options, but at only $2-3 each for small drinks, it's kind of hard to complain. The woman tending bar (I didn't get her name) was friendly and did a great job, so props to her. After getting seated, we received the chips and salsa, which were fine. We split the cheese crisp with green and we thought it had good flavor. I was most disappointed with the combo chicken and steak fajitas, which were served on a plate, not a skillet, and weren't sizzling. It's ok though, because I only had five or six little pieces of meat, which weren't even good. Lots of rice, beans, and condiments, but not much meat and really even less onions, peppers, and other things you'd expect. Really disappointing. The others with me got the burrito and salmon and thought their dishes were good. So I guess it was just me. Service was fine throughout. Not sure I'd rush back here, but at least prices were reasonable.

Couldn't wait any longer to try the new Don Rubens. It did not disappoint! We went early knowing they would fill up quick. At 445 it was about a 10 minute wait. By 530 when we left I would guess it was an hour? Although the names have changed, the food was exactly as I remembered it. Delicious! I ordered the caliente burrito (FKA Diablo burrito) and my lovely wife had a chicken chimichanga. We both agreed they managed to pull it off and bring the best to Surprise! Best part is it is now 5 minutes from my house. I am a lucky man!

Dan Rubens on Bell Road. Lunch special of 1 cheese, enchilada and one taco 9.99. Plus $.50 upcharge for chicken added to the enchilada. The taco was shredded beef. A lot of food for basically $10.50. Really good chips were fresh out of the fryer, but the salsas aren't great. They're better than most places in the area but I kind of have a high standard for salsas, and honestly no one here really gets it. The mild sauce has a good flavor but it's basically a tomato sauce. The hot is not very hot and not very flavorful but when you combine the two it works. Overall, the food was really good. The meat was well seasoned. The rice was on point the server I had, which I think her name was Megan, was amazing. She was really personable and seems to enjoy her job. By the way, the plate was sizzling hot when it came out. It's in the location that used to house that dreadful 5 and diner, but don't let that discourage you from going. Because as bad as 5 and diner was this place is good. Walked out of there for less than 20 bucks, including a roughly 30+ percent tip. It's nice to have a sit down Mexican restaurant in the area other than Rio Mirage, Nothing against them it's just nice to have variety, that isn't more than 10 miles away from me.
